Manitowoc, WI – July 3, 2009 – Hot racing replaced fireworks at Manitowoc County Expo Speedway. The race night was sponsored by Fox Hills Resort, Mishicot, (www.fox-hills.com) and the trophy sponsor, Jamie Hansen Photography, Manitowoc, (www.jhansenphoto.com). All military personnel (past and present) were honored and admitted free to the races. Also, a special thanks to Hagar Nelson for putting up the extra purse money for all divisions.

Kurt Davis (Milwaukee) picked up his 1st EWSC Sprint Car A-Main win, Russ Scheffler (Pewaukee) claimed his 5th EWSC Late Model feature, Jason Dyer (New Holstein) took home his 1st EWSC Grand National feature win and Adam Krepline (Manitowoc) now has 5 EWSC Hobby Stock feature trophies.

Wayne Modjeski (Oak Creek) took the lead of the 30 lap 360 Sprint Car presented by Image 1 Motorsports A-Main from his front row starting position. The first caution of the race came on lap 4 when the ride of Russ Wetenkamp (Newton) spun in turn 2. Modjeski paced the field until the red flag flew on lap 9 for the car of Derek Siegel (St. Francis) tipping on its side. Siegel checked out fine and returned to the race. During that caution, the ride of Dave Lisowe (Chilton) started on fire, retiring him to the pits for the remainder of the race. One car on the move in the first nine laps was that of Scott Conger (Eagle). Conger went from his 13th place starting position and on lap 6 was scored in sixth. Conger went to the infield during the caution on lap 9 with mechanical problems and had to withdraw from the race. As the green flag waved, Modjeski once again paced the pack with Davis closing in. Lance Fassbender (Burnett) was also on the move. Starting 14th, Fassbender patiently made his way through the field and was scored in the top five on lap 19. As the winged warriors crossed the line on lap 22, Davis crossed ahead of Modjeski to take the lead. Davis showed the way to the checkers followed by TJ Luedke (Plymouth), Modjeski, Terry Marten (Sheboygan Falls) and Fassbender.

For the second week in a row, the Sprint Car B-Main went green to checkered. Jeff Wilke (Genoa, IL) threw his car into high gear and led the entire race. The action was behind him as the drivers were jockeying for position to transfer to the A-Main. Kevin Karnitz (West Bend) started 8th and was on a mission to get a transfer position. Karnitz met his goal as the field crossed the line on lap 1 and was scored in fifth place. Wilke took home the victory followed by Karnitz, Spyder Akright (Sheboygan Falls), Jay Riemer (Sheboygan Falls), Jason Lax (Kiel), and Siegel.

The 25 lap Late Model feature was paced by Kerry Hansen (Spencer) for the first nine laps. During those nine laps, Russ Scheffler was making his way to the front and on lap 10 took the lead. The field was slowed on lap 13 for the ailing car of Scott Haugstad (Plymouth) stopping in the entrance to the pit chute. Without getting another lap in, the yellow flew for the car of Jeff Sayler (Howards Grove) spinning on the back stretch. Scheffler controlled the race to the finish followed to the line by Hansen, Craig Schueffner (Sheboygan Falls), Billy Rezutek (Big Bend) and Robert Cullen (Chilton)

The 15 lap Late Model B-Main saw pole sitter Randy Markwardt (Sheboygan) take the lead from the drop of the green flag. The only caution of the race came on lap 2 for the car of Jim Lavey spinning in turn 3. Markwardt took home the win followed by Dan Sorce (Franklin), Kyle Odekirk (Waldo), Sayler and Eric Michaels (Cleveland).

The fans were treated to some great racing in the 20 lap Krajnik Chevrolet Grand National A-Main. Jason Dyer (New Holstein) took the lead from the pole. On lap 6, the car of Josh McDonald (Plymouth) brought out the yellow flag for spinning in turn 2. On lap 8, Brian Gilles (Plymouth) took the lead but Dyer was not going to give up. Two laps later, Dyer was back out front. Gilles was not going to let Dyer win without a fight and took the lead back on lap 11. The yellow flag came out on lap 12 for the cars of Mike Bastian (Manitowoc) and Jestin Danes (New Holstein) getting together in turn 4. As the green flag flew, Gilles was out front. Gilles and Dyer ran door to door for several laps until Dyer passed Gilles on lap 15. As each lap passed, Dyer crossed the line by less than a car length ahead of Gilles. Gilles crossed the line first on lap 19 to be scored in first. Hungry for his first feature win of the season, Dyer passed Gilles on the last lap for the win. Rounding out the top 5 were Gilles, Bob Peter (Howards Grove), Jason Winkler (New Holstein), Kevin Lubach (Elkhart Lake), and Matt Jackson (Sheboygan).

The 15 lap Hobby Stock A-Main saw Pat Wazny (St. Nazianz) take the lead from the outside of the front row. The race was slowed on lap 2 for the car of James Riske (Manitowoc) spinning in turn 4. Wazny paced the field to the green and when they came around to be scored for lap 3, Adam Krepline (Manitowoc) was leading. Krepline extended his lead as Bradley Ruh (Elkhart Lake) was trying to reel Krepline in. Ruh ran short of laps and would have to settle for second. Finishing behind Krepline and Ruh were Tim Simon, Jeff Leonhard (Sheboygan), and Ryan Minster (Sheboygan).

Join EWSC next week Friday, July 10, for our Mid-Season Championship. The race night will be sponsored by Gandrud Auto Group. There will be twin 25 lap features for the Sprint Cars with the overall winner being determined by the driver with the best average of the two. Racing starts at 7:00.
