Travis Luedke of Plymouth took the lead for the first circuit of the 30 lap TechSquad MSA 360 Sprint Car A-Main. Sussex’s Al Schlafer wanted nothing more than the lead and passed Luedke on lap 2. Lance Fassbender of Burnett had his sights set on Luedke and wouldn’t settle for anything less than the lead. Starting 4th, Fassbender patiently made his way to the front and challenged Schlafer for control of the race on lap 10. When the field came to the line on lap 11, Fassbender was leading the pack. The caution flag flew on lap 15 and on the restart second place runner, Schlafer, found 2 lapped cars between himself and the leader. Luedke used the lapped traffic to his advantage and passed Schlafer for second on lap 17. Trying to weave his way through the lapped traffic to catch Fassbender, Luedke ran out of laps and crossed the line behind Fassbender. Rounding out the top 5 were Schlafer, Manitowoc’s Michael Emme, and Wayne Modjeski of Oak Creek

In the 25 lap Late Model Feature, Plymouth’s Dan Dippel jumped out to the lead for the first 7 laps. Brad Mueller of Random Lake took the lead from Dippel on lap 8. The field was slowed for the spinning car of Dippel on lap 13. Mueller led the pack to the green with the charging Justin Ritchie of New London, who started 12th, finding himself in 3rd. On lap 13, Ritchie moved into 2nd and was reeling in Mueller. Ritchie made his move on Mueller on lap 21 and showed the way to the checkers. Following Ritchie and Mueller to the line was Oostburg’s Charlie Schmidt, Ron Berna of Green Bay, and Sheboygan Falls’ Tim Carman. Ritchie claimed the extra purse money donated by Baliegh Industrial of Manitowoc and the Chermake “Hot Dog” Hard Charger for passing 11 cars.

Phil Coppersmith of Plymouth paced the field from the pole for the 20 lap Grand National Feature. Two Rivers native, Brett Wenzel, charged from his 9th place starting spot to pass Coppersmith for the lead on lap 7. Wenzel knew that Plymouth’s Brian Gilles had his sights set high. After starting 8th, Gilles’ game plan was patience. On lap 16, Gilles pulled up right behind Wenzel, contemplating his next move. Crossing the line on lap 17, Gilles’ bumper crossed just in front of Wenzel’s to be scored in the lead. The two ran door to door for the next few laps and on the final lap, Gilles came out of turn 4 several car lengths ahead of Wenzel to pick up his 4th feature win of the year. Finishing behind Gilles and Wenzel was Mike Bastian of Manitowoc, Belgium’s Scott Houpt, and Bob Peter of Howard’s Grove. Gilles picked up the extra purse money given by Dick Piel.

Brett Koehler of Two Rivers showed the way in the 15 lap Hobby Stock feature from the drop of the green flag. Newton’s Mike Kaufmann was in 2nd on lap 2 after starting 5th. Kaufmann continued to make a run on Koehler but Adam Krepline of Manitowoc wouldn’t hear of that and took 2nd away from Kaufmann on the white flag lap. Krepline ran out of laps to challenge Koehler for the win. Following Koehler and Krepline to the checkers was Kaufmann, 14 year old rookie driver, his first time in a car, Ryan Minster of Sheboygan, and Manitowoc’s Mike Plate, Jr. Koehler picked up the extra winnings donated by Kari Piel.

Kyle Resch of Manitowoc started shotgun in the field for the 12 lap Mighty 4 Feature and was leading the race on lap 6. Kiel’s Greg Gierke took the lead from the pole until Amber Rabe of Plymouth passed him for the lead on lap 4. Resch took the lead from Rabe on lap 6 and went on to take the win. Finishing behind Resch and Rabe were Gierke, Elkhart Lake’s Chris Gilson, and Michael Strean of Sheboygan Falls.

Racing continues next Friday, July 25th. EWSC will be celebrating Christmas in July with 2 Packer tickets on the line for the best decorated hauler. There will be a nickel drop for kids sponsored by Bank First National. It will also be Holiday House Night at the races. There will be an autograph night after the races in the pits. Yearbooks will be available for purchase.
