Pete Ostrowski of Troy Center started on the outside of the front row for the 30 lap 360 Sprint Car A-Main. Ostrowski took control of the caution filled race from the drop of the green flag. After completing seven laps, the red flag flew for the cars of Jeremy Schultz of Beaver Dam and Sheboygan Falls’ Terry Marten getting together causing Schultz’s car to flip several times down the back stretch. With no where to go, Scotty Thiel of Sheboygan collected the car of Schultz, with both cars sustaining major damage. With a flat tire, Marten went to the pits to get a new tire and was able to restart the race at the rear of the pack. After getting the track cleared and the field lined back up, the green flag flew with Ostrowski being chased by pole sitter Al Schlafer of Sussex. The red flag flew again on lap 16 for the car of Campbellsport’s Tony Wondra finding itself on its side. On the restart the ride of Brian Kristan of Zion, IL got into the guard rail and also tipped on its side. Kristan’s car seemed to be fine to rejoin the field but when the green flag was dropped, Kristan pulled to the infield with problems. With the time limit almost being met, the race was shortened to 5 laps to go. Ostrowski, with his sights on the checkered, set the pace for the final laps. Crossing the line behind Ostrowski was Schlafer, last weeks A-main winner Robbie Pribnow of Lomira, Burnett’s Lance Fassbender and Paul Pokorski of West Bend. Waupun’s Tim Haddy picked up the Chermake “Hot Dog” Hard Charger for passing 8 cars.
Oostburg’s Todd Jensema started 7th in the 25 lap Late Model feature and on lap 5 found himself in third. Pole sitter, Dan Dippel of Plymouth was in control with Jensema reeling him in. On lap 9, Jensema passed Dippel for the lead. Sheboygan Falls’ Craig Scheuffner also had his sights on the leader as he started 9th and made his way to third by lap 11. On lap 16, Scheuffner passed Dippel for second but ran out of laps to get Jensema. Jensema was followed to the checkers by Scheuffner, Turk Letizia of Milwaukee, Dippel, and Mukwonago’s Ron Stroika. Jensema was awarded the extra purse money donated by Baleigh Industrial of Manitowoc. The 20 lap Grand National feature was not off to a good start. The first lap saw the yellow flag come out for several cars getting together. When the green flag came out to restart the race, several more cars got together to bring out another caution. After getting the track cleared, the green flag flew with Manitowoc’s Mike Bastian showing the way. Brian Gilles of Plymouth was weaving his way through traffic and on lap 2 was in the top 5. Patiently, Gilles made his way behind Bastian and on lap 15 passed Bastian for the lead. Two River’s Brett Wenzel also had his sights set on the leader from his ninth starting spot. Wenzel made his way to the top 5 on lap 6. Chasing Gilles to the finish was Bastian, Dan Schumacher of Milwaukee, Wenzel, and Sheboygan’s Dale Damrow. Claiming the extra money put up by Krajnik Chevrolet of Two Rivers was the 6th and 11th finishing spot. The money was awarded to Matt Jackson of Sheboygan and Oconomowoc’s Don Schumacher. Recipient of the extra purse money donated by Dick Piel was the 7th place finisher, Chris Seehaver of Manitowoc. Manitowoc’s Kris Conard set the pace from the start of the 15 lap Hobby Stock feature. Mike Kaufmann of Newton crossed the line first on lap 7 but Conard was not going to back down. Conard took control back on lap 10. Meanwhile, Sheboygan’s Jeff Leonhard and Adam Krepline of Manitowoc were patiently making their way to the front. Leonhard took the lead on lap 13 and Krepline followed right behind him. After having engine problems last week, Krepline made his presence known to Leonhard by pulling up door to door next to him. It was a drag race to the finish coming out of turn 4. Krepline crossed the finish line just in front of Leonhard followed by Manitowoc’s Jesse Brey (driving for Mike Plate), Mike Wilde of Manitowoc, and Mike Rausch of Two Rivers. By finishing first, Krepline claimed the extra prize money donated by Kari Piel. The 12 lap Mighty 4 feature saw Plymouth’s Amber Rabe grab the lead from her 4th starting position after the first circuit. Kyle Resch of Manitowoc was chasing down Rabe and on lap 7 found himself right behind Rabe. Resch ran out of time and would have to settle for 2nd. Following Rabe and Resch to the checkers was Kiel’s Greg Gierke, Chris Gilson of Elkhart Lake, and Sheboygan’s Michael Strean. Racing continues next Friday, July 18th. There will be big wheel races for the kids….bring your own big wheels. Check out EWSC’s website, www.EWSCracing.net, for updated points and other info. Race Summary: 360 Sprint Cars Heat 1: 1.
