In the 30 lap 360 Sprint Car A-Main, pole sitter Ben Schmidt of Plymouth took the lead at the drop of the green flag. Heat winner, Kurt Davis, Milwaukee, started sixth and found himself leading the pack on lap nine. The ride of Brian Kristan, Zion, Illinois, was in hot pursuit of Davis when the caution flag flew on the last lap. Crossing the finish line behind Davis and Kristan was Plymouth’s Tony Wondra, Scott Conger, Eagle, and Wayne Modjeski. DeFaut’s Auto Salvage is giving a Hard Charger Award for the driver with the most accumulated cars passed in the A-Main for the season. With 3 weeks of racing in, there is a tie between Paul Pokorski and Travis Luedtke with each passing 25 cars.
To start the Late Model 25 lap feature, Al Atkinson jumped out in front of the field while Ron Berna was weaving his way through traffic to keep Atkinson in his sight. Berna reeled in Atkinson and on lap nine and crossed the line in the lead. Seeing the track for the first time this season, Scott Specht, started 14th, put his car in high gear and found himself in the top 10 by lap six. The only caution flag of the race flew on lap ten for several cars getting together. After the caution, Berna continued to set the pace to the checkers with Charlie Schmidt, Justin Ritchie, Shawano’s Tom Naeyaert, and Craig Schueffner rounding out the top 5. Berna will receive the extra purse money donated to the Late Model winner by Baileigh Industrial of Manitowoc.
Heat winner, Mike Bastian of Manitowoc, had his car hooked up in the 20 lap Grand National feature. Starting sixth, Bastian took the lead from Sheboygan’s Josh McDonald on lap 5. Brett Wenzel of Two Rivers was running Bastian down and on lap 10 found himself right behind Bastian. Wenzel challenged Bastian for the lead several times and took the lead for a short time on lap 19 as Bastian fought back and would not take anything less than the checkered flag. Bastian crossed the line just in front of Wenzel for back to back feature wins. Bastian and Wenzel were followed to the line by Sheboygan’s Josh McDonald, Bob Peter of Howards Grove, and Mishicot’s Jerry Brickner. An anonymous donor has donated an extra $25 to the Grand National feature winner for the rest of the season, which made Bastian the first recipient. The Chermake “Hot Dog” Hard Charger Award was given to Bastian for passing 5 cars. Krajnik Chevrolet of Two Rivers donated $50 to the sixth place finisher of the Grand National feature which was Matt Jackson.
The 15 lap Hobby Stock feature saw a last lap pass by Manitowoc’s Adam Krepline to take home the checkered flag for the second week in a row. Matt McDonald of Sheboygan had control of the race for the first 3 laps, that’s when Mike Kaufmann, Newton, took over the reigns. He led the race until Krepline passed him on the last lap to take the win. Finishing behind Krepline and Kaufmann were Jeff Leonhard, Sheboygan’s Matt McDonald, and Kris Conard of Manitowoc.
Amber Rabe of Plymouth led the first 4 laps of the Mighty 4 feature race. On lap 5, Manitowoc’s Kyle Resch crossed the line first to take the lead. Resch showed the way to the checkered flag for his second feature win of the season followed by Rabe and Tim Simon of Fond du Lac.
