Manitowoc, WI.; July 28, 2007 - Mark Schleicher of West Allis jumped to the early lead in the Winged Super Modified A-Main with Brad Swendrowski of Milwaukee chasing him down. Just as past track champion Paul Pokorski of West Bend passed Schleicher for the lead and the competitors raced into turn one, Schleicher rolled his car and landed in turn two sending his car and last week’s feature winner Pete Ostrowski of East Troy to the pits.
Photo Highlights When the green flag flew, Pokorski raced out in front again with point leader Butch Hafemann of Campbellsport charging on the high side of the track to pull into second with Kris Hansen of Manitowoc chasing him down.

A lap later, Hafemann and Hansen raced side by side coming out of turn two and down the backstretch. Hansen, tucked to the inside of Hafemann, edged out Hafemann at the scoring line to take over the challenge spot. Hafemann stuck to the outside of Hansen as the two charged into turns one and two. High on the track, Hafemann charged out of turn four to complete lap nine with his bumper ahead of Hansen’s.

As Pokorski raced out in front, Hafemann and Hansen battled back and forth for the challenge spot around the whole track until a caution flag halted the hard-charging racing action in lap 11. Pokorski set the pace with second place Hafemann on the inside and third place Hansen outside the next row. When the green flag flew, Hansen charged into second behind Pokorski and tucked his car back to the inside. Hafemann pulled alongside Hansen again in lap fifteen with five laps left in the race. For the next three laps, Hansen and Hafemann charged side by side around the Manitowoc. After completing lap 18, Pokorski, Hansen and Hafemann raced through turns one and two. As Hafemann charged down the back stretch and into turn three, something broke and his car crashed through the guardrail and landed outside the track area causing a red flag. After Hafemann was able to climb out of his car, the race was completed on the last lap under green flag conditions. Pokorski won his second Modified A-Main of the season with Hansen following in second. Bob Brion of Plymouth, heat winner Chuck Tuschl of Reedsville and Keith Borth of Sheboygan rounded out the top five.

In the Limited Late Model A-Main, Scott Haugstad of Plymouth charged into the early lead with Jeff Sayler of Howards Grove chasing him down. Behind them in lap three, heat winner Jay Crichton of Lake Villa, Illinois and Paul Dingel of Sheboygan raced side by side down the front stretch and into turn one. As they charged out of turn two, Crichton passed Dingel to take over third. Four laps later, Crichton pulled alongside Sayler to pressure for second place. Sayler held off Crichton by just inches at the line in lap seven but Crichton continued his charge and a lap later, Crichton took over the challenge spot to chase down leader Haugstad. As Haugstad and Crichton charged side by side through turn four to complete lap 10, Haugstad charged down the front stretch still in the lead. After completing the next lap, Haugstad and Crichton charged door to door into turns one and two and down the backstretch. Crichton threw his car hard into turn three and passed Haugstad to take over the lead in the corner. For the remaining eight laps, Crichton counted off the laps and charged through the checkered flag to win his third A-Main of the season, with all the wins in the month of July. Haugstad held off a final lap attempt by Sayler to finish second with Sayler in third. Four time feature winner Dan Dippel of Plymouth followed in fourth with another previous feature winner Howie Weiss of Glenbeulah rounding out the top five.

In the new IMCA-style Modified division, heat winner Mike Mullen of Seymour charged into the early lead with a battle brewing behind him between Joel Crowbridge of Burlington and Art Siefert of Green Bay for the challenge spot. At the line in lap seven, Siefert took over second but Crowbridge was not ready to give it up as he charged on the high side of the track catching Siefert and passing him in the next lap to reclaim second. A restart in lap 13, halfway through the race, pulled leader Mullen back to directly in front of the field with Crowbridge and Siefert behind him. When the green flag flew, Mullen again charged out in front with Crowbridge and Siefert joined by John Schultz of Appleton and Eric Mullen of Seymour in the top five. At the line in lap 21, Siefert tucked his car to the inside of Crowbridge and took over the challenge position as Eric Mullen pulled passed Schultz to take over fourth. Crowbridge battled back and pulled side by side with Siefert in the next lap. When the checkered flag flew, Mike Mullen charged through to win his first A-Main at the Manitowoc track. Siefert followed in second with Crowbridge and Eric Mullen in third and fourth. In a final lap pass, Pete Ostrowski of East Troy, driving double duty in both Modified divisions, finished fifth.

Leaders in the 20-lap Grand National A-Main did not fare overall with Josh McDonald of Sheboygan grabbing the early lead until leaving the race for the pit area in lap two not to return to the race. When the green flag flew again, heat winner Chad Kistner of New Holstein became the second leader after charging passed Jerry Brickner of Mishicot and four time feature winner Brett Wenzel of Two Rivers who started in front of him on the restart. Wenzel pulled into second behind Kistner and pressured for the lead for laps as he tucked his car to the inside of the track. Fast qualifier Brian Gilles of Plymouth charged into third with Chad Rathke of Random Lake moving into fourth in lap five. For laps, Wenzel tucked his car to the inside of leader Kistner as the two charged out of turn four but Kistner, on the high side of the track, raced down the front stretch holding onto the lead each lap. As Kistner and Wenzel charged out of turn four for lap 13, Wenzel edged out Kistner by inches at the line to become the new race leader until an accident occurred sending Wenzel to the pits not to return, becoming the second leader to leave the race. Kistner reverted back to the lead position on the restart with Gilles and Rathke directly behind him as the green flag flew for a seven lap race to the checkered flag. As Kistner raced out in front, Rathke charged into second. For the next four laps, Kistner, Rathke, Gilles and heat winner Jerry Wenzel of Two Rivers charged tightly packed in the front of the field in a great battle for the win. Coming through turns three and four to complete lap 18, Kistner experienced a flat tire which took him out of the lead, becaming the third leader to head to the pits. Rathke wasted no time in charging out in front and through the checkered flag to win his first A-Main of the season. Two-time feature winner Gilles followed in second with Jerry Wenzel in third. Previous feature winner Mike Damrow of Sheboygan and Keith Kellenbenz of Manitowoc rounded out the top five.

In the Eastern 8 A-Main, Sheboygan’s Josh McDonald, driving double duty in the Eastern 8’s and the Grand Nationals, jumped into the early lead with Kris Conard of Manitowoc on his bumper. Heat winner Steven Ruh of Chilton moved into third by lap three with a three-way battle for fourth between Patrick Neuman and Matt McDonald, both of Manitowoc, and Pat Wazny of St. Nazianz developing. Three laps later, Ruh threw his car to the high side of the track to pull side by side with Conard to pressure for second. A multi-car incident in lap eight caused the only yellow flag in the race and relined up the field with Josh McDonald setting the pace out in front. Two time feature winner Kevin Ruh and five-time feature winner Bradley Ruh, both of Elkhart Lake, lined up directly behind the leader. When the green flag flew, Bradley Ruh charged out into the lead with Kevin Ruh and Josh McDonald racing side by side in second. McDonald secured second in the next lap with Kevin Ruh in a battle for third with Troy Bartel of Chilton in lap 14. A lap later, with leader Bradley safely out in front, Kevin Ruh broke free of Bartel and charged passed McDonald to take over second. At the checkered flag, point leader Bradlley Ruh won back to back features and his sixth feature of the season. Bartel made a final attempt in the last lap and passed Kevin Ruh to finish second with Kevin following in third. Wazny and Lynn Schroeder of Manitowoc rounded out the top five.

After the accident in the EWSC Modified A-Main, the Mighty 4 A-Main was cancelled due to the lengthy guardrail and fencing repairs needed to insure the track safe for more racing. Special or extended Mighty 4 racing is expected this Saturday to make up for the cancellation tonight.

Join Eastern Wisconsin Stock Cars on Saturday, August 4th for the WOMT Night at the Races with great EWSC & IMCA-style Modified, Limited Late Model, Grand National, Eastern 8 and Mighty 4 racing action.
