Manitowoc, WI.; July 14, 2007 - Without any cautions to halt the racing action, the Grand National A-Main ran green flag to checkered with Jerry Wenzel of Two Rivers grabbing the early lead with point leader Chad Kistner of New Holstein breaking free of a three way battle in the first lap with Steve Seitz of Beaver Dam and Mike Plate of Newton to chase leader Wenzel down.
Photo Highlights By lap seven, two-time feature winner Don Sorce Jr. of West Allis charged into third behind Kistner pressuring for the challenge position.

Four laps later, just over the half way point in the 20-lap race, fast qualifier and another two-time feature winner Brian Gilles of Plymouth charged into fifth behind Plate. Kistner charged out of turn two after completing lap 12 to pass leader Wenzel on the backstretch. In lap 13, Kistner held the lead but Wenzel stuck with the leader and edged Kistner out at the line to take back the lead in the next lap. At the same time, Gilles pulled side by side with Plate to take over fourth and set his sights on Sorce. In lap 15, with Wenzel and Kistner still battling for the lead, Gilles moved into third and charged after the leaders. After chasing leader Wenzel for three more laps, Kistner made his move as he threw his car hard into turn four and charged down the front stretch in the lead with two more laps to the end of the race. As the white flag flew, Gilles made his move for second and pulled almost even with Wenzel at the line with only inches giving Gilles the challenge spot. Gilles charged after leader Kistner in the final lap but Kistner was determined and after winning his heat race, Kistner charged through the checkered flag to win his first A-Main this season. Fast qualifier Gilles followed in second with Wenzel in third. Last week’s feature winner Brett Wenzel of Two Rivers made a last lap pass to take home fourth with Sorce rounding out the top five.
In the Limited Late Model A-Main, substitute driver Paul Parker of Appleton jumped into the early lead with JJ Walvoord of Oostburg chasing him down. Mark Dingel of Sheboygan raced into third behind Walvood by lap three. As Walvoord and Dingel charged into turns one and two, Dingel threw his car high into the corner and charged passed Walvoord on the backstretch. Dingel began his chase for the lead and three laps later, Dingel threw his car hard into turn three but Parker held his ground and continued his charge in the lead. At the line in lap 10, half way through the race, Walvoord tucked his car to the inside of Dingel and passed coming out of turn four to take over the challenge spot. Point leader and four-time feature winner Dan Dippel of Plymouth tucked inside Jeff Sayler of Howards Grove in the next lap to take over fourth. As Walvoord, Dingel and Dippel charged after leader Parker, the only cautions appeared in lap 14, the second of which sent leader Parker to the pits. Walvoord lined up in the front alone with Dingel and Dippel directly behind him. When the green flag flew, setting up a six-lap dash to the checkered flag, Walvoord charged out in the lead with Dippel on his bumper. Walvoord and Dippel, having raced together before, charged around the Manitowoc track both on the high side and then down low. When Walvoord did not give Dippel an opening, Dippel tucked his car to the inside in turn four coming around for the final lap. After winning his heat race, Walvoord held off Dippel and charged through to win his first A-Main this season. Dippel followed in second with Dingel third. Howie Weiss of Glenbeulah and Parker rounded out the top five.

In Winged Super Modified racing action, point leader Butch Hafemann of Campbellsport took the green flag and never looked back. Last week’s feature winner Kris Hansen of Manitowoc, second in points, chased after Hafemann until experiencing mechanical problems in the final turn. Hafemann charged through the checkered flag to win his second A-Main this season. After Hansen dropped, Chuck Tuschl of Reedsville took over second on the front stretch taking the checkered with rookie Brandon McMullen of Plymouth finishing third.

When the green flag flew on the Eastern 8 A-Main, nineteen competitors charged through to begin the 20-lap race with Newton’s Mike Kaufmann moving into the early lead with Manitowoc’s Adam Krepline on his bumper. By lap five, Kevin Ruh of Elkhart Lake moved into third with Sheboygan competitors Josh Setzer and Mark Vranak chasing after him. Krepline raced the high side of the track to reel in leader Kaufmann but when Ruh caught up to him, Krepline tucked down to the inside. Ruh readjusted and threw his car to the outside to charge passed Krepline at the line in lap eight. Continuing his charge, Ruh took over the lead in the next lap with Kaufmann and Krepline now chasing him down. Brett Koehler of Two Rivers moved into fourth at the halfway point in the race with Setzer behind him. Two laps later, the first caution flag relined up the field with Ruh setting the pace out in front alone and Kaufmann and Krepline directly behind him. When the green flag flew, Ruh smoothly maintained his lead. Brad Ruh also of Elkhart Lake moved from his seventh place restart to fourth the lap after the yellow flag with Koehler behind him in fifth. Another caution two laps later, in lap 14, reset Kevin Ruh up in front this time with Kaufmann and Brad Ruh behind him. When the green flag flew, to set up a five-lap dash to the checkered flag, Brad Ruh charged in behind leader Kevin Ruh. Coming out of turn four for the next lap, Brad Ruh tucked his car to the inside of leader Kevin to pressure for the lead but Kevin Ruh held him off and charged through the remaining laps to win his second A-Main of the season. Four-time feature winner Brad Ruh followed in second with Kaufmann in third. Troy Bartel of Chilton and Koehler rounded out the top five.

In the Mighty 4 A-Main, Jesse Heise of Suamico jumped into the early lead with Tim Simon of St. Peter chasing him down. Plymouth’s Amber Rabe moved into third by lap three with heat winner Jamie Miller of Suamico and three-time feature winner JJ Anderson of Pulaski behind her. A lap later, Anderson charged passed Miller and pulled side by side with Rabe to challenge for third. Anderson took over third in lap five and set his sights on Simon. Coming out of turn four a lap later, Anderson tucked his car to the inside of Simon and the two competitors charged down the front stretch together. Anderson secured second in lap seven and chased after leader Heise. At the line in lap nine, Anderson charged passed Heise to take control of the race. Just when it looked that leader Anderson could check out in front back-to-back cautions appeared in laps 12 and 13. Anderson lined up alone in the front with Heise and RJ Liegeois of Pulaski directly behind him. When the green flag flew, Anderson charged out in front and straight through the checkered flag to win four feature races this season. Heise followed in second with Liegeois, Jacob Wilcox of Seymour and heat winner Miller rounding out the top five.

New to the EWSC lineup, the IMCA-style Modifieds hit the track with a roll of thunder as Random Lake’s Chris Piquette charged into the early lead with Aaron Rake of Beaver Dam on his bumper. Through an early yellow flag, heat winner Eric Scribner of Forest Junction took over the top spot in lap four with Paul Parker of Appleton throwing his car to the high side to take over second in lap five. With Scribner on the inside groove, Parker continued his charge on the outside of the track to catch the leader in lap ten. Parker took over the lead as Scribner readjusted to the high groove to chase him down. Rake and heat winner Mike Mullen of Seymour charged after Parker and Scribner with all racing the high side of the Manitowoc track. Burnett’s Rob Schmid charged into fifth in lap 13 and began his race in the top five. At the checkered flag, Parker charged through to win the main event.
