Manitowoc, WI.; September 16, 2006 -  In the Winged Super Modified A-Main, Dave Deicher of Plymouth charged into the lead with Butch Hafemann of Campbellsport on his bumper. By lap two, point leader Paul Pokorski of West Bend charged to race side by side with third place Steve Bricker of Two Rivers. Pokorski threw his car to the outside to charge passed Bricker and Hafemann taking over second and setting his sights on leader Deicher.

A lap later, the high groove worked as Pokorski charged into the lead. Four-time feature winner Pete Ostrowski of East Troy moved into the fifth by lap five. At the scoring line a lap later, Ostrowski passed Bricker and Hafemann by charging to the high side coming out of turn four. Ostrowski wasted no time settling into third as a lap later he again raced skillfully through the corners to take second place from Deicher in lap seven. Leader Pokorski had built a solid lead over the field by the time Ostrowski moved into second so Ostrowski had his work cut out for him. As Pokorski began dealing with lapped traffic, Ostrowski continued his charge.

Just after the halfway point in the 30-lap race, Ostrowski threw his car to the outside of Pokorski going into turns one and two after completing lap 16. Coming out of turn two and charging down the back stretch, Ostrowski took over the lead. Just as Ostrowski looked to “check out” in front, the first and only yellow flag appeared in lap 19 and relined up Pokorski and second-in-points Billy Hafemann of Waldo directly behind leader Ostrowski. When the green flag flew, Ostrowski again threw his car to the outside and charged out in front. Pokorski, tucked inside, followed in second with Hafemann sticking to him in third. Pokorski readjusted and moved his car to the outside to hold off the charging Hafemann. Pokorski moved down on the track in lap 28 and Hafemann used the opening to charge passed him to take over second. With only two laps to the checkered, Hafemann did not have enough time to reel in leader Ostrowski. At the checkered flag, fast qualifier Ostrowski won his fifth A-Main of the season. Heat winner Hafemann followed in second with the 2006 Modified Track Champion Pokorski finishing third.

Dave Schaetzer of Sheboygan jumped to the early lead of the Limited Late Model A-Main with point leader Dan Dippel of Plymouth charging after him. With twelve A-Main wins this season, Dippel charged after Schaetzer in a great battle for the lead. As Schaetzer and Dippel battled through turns three and four, Dippel tucked his car to the inside of Schaetzer to challenge for the lead. Schaetzer charged down the front stretch to hold onto the lead at the line. The two competitors threw their cars into turns one and two with Dippel passing Schaetzer by inches on the back stretch. The cars were side by side again in turns three and four as Schaetzer swept his car to the inside groove to challenge for the lead but Dippel held him off and threw his car to the fast outside of the track to lead the field around the Manitowoc track. At the halfway point in the race, Schaetzer stuck to Dippel’s bumper to pressure him for the lead. Dippel charged through the remaining laps to take the checkered flag, his thirteenth win and the 2006 Limited Late Model Track Championship. Heat winner Schaetzer followed in second with Howie Weiss of Glenbeulah in third.

At the drop of the green flag to start the Grand National A-Main, the 20 car field remained tightly packed as two set of cars raced four wide through turns one and two with heat winner Brian Goetsch of Sheboygan leading the field. As the cars battled three and four wide behind him, Goetsch charged into a healthy lead out in front. Mike Plate of Newton moved into second and attempted to reel in leader Goetsch with Chad Kistner of New Holstein, Andy Fuhrmann of Brillion and Brian Gilles in Plymouth charging side by side in a battle for third. Two laps later, point leader Gilles charged inside the other competitors to take over third at the line. As Gilles set his sights on Plate, Tim Warner of Malone moved into the top five . By lap eight, Gilles caught up to the back of Plate with Kistner and Warner charging after him. Behind them, Brett Wenzel of Two Rivers raced side by side with Brad Ruh of Elkhart Lake while Scott Sohrweide of Chilton and Brad Lubach of Elkhart Lake also battled next to each other. As Plate and Gilles charged into turn three, the two competitors raced side by side. Gilles tucked his car to the inside of the track and charged out of turn four to take over second place with Goetsch now in his sights.

As leader Goetsch began lapping cars, Gilles caught up to the back of the leader’s car. Gilles again tucked his car to the inside of turn four to pass Goetsch for the lead in lap thirteen. Goetsch was not ready to give up the lead just yet and raced side by side with Gilles for the next couple laps in a great battle for control of the race. Warner moved into third to charge after the battling duo in his bid for the win. Just as Gilles looked to secure the lead, the second and final yellow flag halted the racing momentum and pull the field back together setting up a three lap battle for the win. As the green flag flew, Gilles charged out into the lead again with Warner moving into second. In sixth before the yellow, Lubach charged into third with Jerry Wenzel of Two Rivers moving from ninth into fourth. At the checkered flag, fast qualifier and the 2006 Grand National Track Champion Gilles won his second A-Main of the season. Warner followed in second with Lubach, Wenzel and Sohrweide rounding out the top five.

Greg Gierke of Kiel charged into the early lead in the Mighty 4 A–Main with Jacob Meyer of Plymouth on his bumper. Mark Kuhfuss of Howards Grove threw his car to the inside of Meyer just before a yellow flag appeared to reline up the field. When the green flag flew, Kuhfuss threw his car to the inside to charge into the lead with Gierke moving into second. Another yellow flag after one more lap was completed restarted the race again, this time with Kuhfuss out in front alone. When the race restarted, Kuhfuss charged out in the lead with Gierke and the “GO Racing # 7 Car” on its bumper. Kuhfuss led the field through the corners and down the straightaway with Gierke chasing him down. In lap 10, Roger Borth of Plymouth moved into third. Two laps later, back to back cautions ended with Shaun Bangart of Chilton rolling his car in turns one and two. The green flag flew to set up a three lap dash to the end of the race. Kuhfuss charged out in front with Borth moving into second. At the checkered flag, Kuhfuss won his second A-Main of the season with Borth, Gierke and heat winner Amber Rabe of Plymouth finishing in the top four.

At the drop of the green flag in the Eastern 8 A-Main, Lynn Schroeder of Manitowoc charged into the lead with her new husband Josh Schroeder on her bumper. Jeff Sayler of Howards Grove charged from sixth to third in lap three to pull in behind the charging Schroeders. Sayler threw his car to the inside of Josh and passed him on the back stretch to pull into second behind Lynn Schroeder. Just before the only yellow flag in lap six, point leader Adam Krepline of Manitowoc charged into third behind leader Lynn and Sayler. When the green flag flew to restart the race, Krepline flew to the front of the field to take over the lead in lap seven. Sayler followed Krepline with Marshall Mullenex of Little Chute moving into third a lap later. When leader Krepline began lapping traffic, Mark Vranak of Sheboygan moved into third as Mullenex dropped out of the race with mechanical problems. At the checkered flag, Krepline won his fifth feature win and became the 2006 Eastern 8 Track Champion. Sayler followed in second with Vranak in third.

Announced at the track, the Eastern Wisconsin Stock Cars 2007 Season Opener sponsored by Sunset Tours is scheduled for Saturday, May 5, 2007 at the Manitowoc County Expo.
