Manitowoc, WI.; September 2, 2006 - On a super fast race track, the Winged Super Modified 30-lap A-Main competitors flew around the Manitowoc track as past Modified Track Champion Paul Pokorski of West Bend was hooked up as he charged out into the lead on the first lap.
Photo Highlights
Paul Pokorski (#4) continued his domination of the Winged Super Modifieds as he flew to yet another feature victory at the Manitowoc County Expo Raceway.
Dan Dippel (#8) earned his 11th feature win of the season in Limited Late Model action, tonight's victory was hard fought being decided on the final turn!
Ben Schmidt (#34) topped the action in the Grand National Sportsman division.
Adam Krepline (#99) added to his checkered flag collection taking another Eastern 8 feature race.
Mike Kuhfuss (#77) topped the All-American Mighty 4 feature contest.
Not every racing event required a race car this evening as the M&R Racing Equipment Wheelbarrow races were popular with the fans.. in spite of the lack of exhaust fumes!

Steve Bricker of Two Rivers and Bob Brion of Plymouth chased Pokorski with Butch Hafemann of Campbellsport, Dan Kruschke of Glenbeulah, Tim McMullen of Plymouth and Pete Ostrowski of East Troy remaining tightly packed as they battled for third place in lap four. A lap later, a yellow flag pulled leader Pokorski back to just in front of the field.

When the green flag flew, another lap was completed before a second and final caution occurred and relined up the field again. As the field came around to take the green flag, Billy Hafemann of Waldo charged out of turn four and lifted his front end off the track down the front stretch. Pokorski flew out in front again with Bricker charging after him. As Pokorski began lapping cars in lap eleven, Butch Hafemann and Brion charged side by side down the front stretch with only inches separating their cars at the scoring line in a battle for third. Butch Hafemann secured the position and charged after second place Bricker. Two laps later, last season’s track champion McMullen moved into fourth. McMullen charged after Butch Hafemann for the next two laps attempting to tuck his car to the inside but with no success. Coming out of turn four to complete lap 16, McMullen readjusted and threw his car to the outside of Hafemann to take over third. By lap 21, McMullen caught up to the back of second place Bricker. A lap later, McMullen was within striking distance of taking over the challenge spot. As Bricker and McMullen raced into turn one after completing lap 22, McMullen threw his car again to the outside of the track to pass Bricker coming out of turn two. As leader Pokorski piled on the lapped traffic, McMullen was forced to weaved through lapped cars to find him. At the checkered flag, Pokorski won his eighth Modified A-Main of the season. McMullen followed in second with Ostrowski recovering from a flat tire on an early restart to charge from the back of the field to finish third. Bricker and Butch Hafemann rounded out the top five. Ostrowski won the Apex Track Supply Hard Charger Award.

After the announcement earlier before the race program that, despite rumors to the contrary, the Limited Late Model division would be returning to the Eastern Wisconsin Stock Car program in the 2007 season, the Limited Late Model A-Main hit the track. Dave Haag of Glenbeulah charged into the early lead with Dave Schaetzer of Sheboygan chasing him down. Past track champion Dan Dippel of Plymouth moved into second by lap four and began his battle with Haag for control of the race. Coming out of turn four to complete lap nine, Dippel tucked his car to the inside of Haag but Haag responded by charging down the front stretch ahead of Dippel. Haag and Dippel then charged side by side into turns one and two and down the back stretch. The two battled side by side for the next couple laps. Haag and Dippel charged out of turn four together and drag raced down the front stretch to cross the line in lap eleven with only inches keeping Haag in the lead. The next lap through three and four, Haag and Dippel were once again door to door as Dippel tucked his car to the inside and this time crossed the line in the lead over Haag. Haag charged back on the backstretch pulling ahead of Dippel but Dippel held onto the lead at the line. In a final lap charge, Haag and Dippel threw their cars into turn three and charged out of turn four side by side with Dippel charging down the front stretch to take the checkered flag for his eleventh A-Main win. Haag followed in second with Schaetzer in third. Dippel also earned the Apex Track Supply Hard Charger Award.

After transferring the final six cars through the earlier B-Main, the Grand National 20-lap A-Main charged onto the pack with Ben Schmidt of Plymouth jumping into the lead at the drop of the green flag. Brett Wenzel of Two Rivers and Jeremy Sauter of Random Lake charged into second and third to chase down leader Schmidt. By lap seven, Sauter pulled alongside Wenzel in his battle to take over second. Wenzel and Sauter continued to charge around the track together until Sauter made his move and passed for second on the back stretch. Before a lap could be completed, the first and only yellow flag appeared to halt the hard-charging racing action with nine laps complete. Going to the last completed lap under the green flag, Schmidt lined up in the front alone with Wenzel moved back into second and Sauter outside him in third.

When the green flag flew, the competitors raced three and four wide around the track in a fast-paced battle for position. Schmidt again charged into the lead with Wenzel holding onto second. Chad Kistner of New Holstein moved into third with Jason Winkler also of New Holstein next to him in fourth. A lap later, at the half way point of the race, Scott Sohrweide of Chilton and Brian Gilles of Plymouth pulled side by side with Winkler in a three-way battle for fourth place. A lap later, Winkler and Gilles charged across the line side by side as Sohrweide experienced mechanical problems retiring to the pits two laps later. At the line in lap 13, Winkler broke free slightly as Brad Lubach of Elkhart Lake slid inside Gilles to challenge for fifth. Winkler focused on charging after Kistner.

Gregg Haese of Two Rivers charged between the battling Gilles and Lubach to take over sixth behind Gilles. With Schmidt charging to a healthy lead over the field, Wenzel continued to chase him down. Haese continued his charge and took over fifth from Gilles to enter the top five. A lap later, Haese pulled side by side with Winkler to take over fourth by inches at the line. Down the front stretch in the next lap, Gilles charged passed the battling Haese and Winkler to take over third as Kistner, Haese and Winkler charged three abreast in a great battle for fourth. Lubach wisely hovered just behind the battling trio so a lap later he could charge passed two of the three to pull into fifth. At the checkered flag, Schmidt charged through to win his first A-Main of the season. Wenzel followed in second with Gilles in third. Kistner came through the battling trio to finish fourth as Lubach followed in fifth. The Apex Track Supply Hard Charger Award went to Gilles for passing nine cars.

In one of the closest finishes seen in many years, the Mighty 4 A-Main had fans on their feet in the final three laps after a restart pulled leader Mark Kuhfuss of Howards Grove back to within striking distance of the field. When the green flag flew, Amber Rabe of Plymouth charged into the lead with only two laps to go. Rabe charged the high side of the track as Kuhfuss pulled side by side with her down the back stretch.

Rabe and Kuhfuss raced with only inches separating their cars as they charged out of turns three and four. As the white flag flew, Rabe held onto the lead and Kuhfuss moved his car to the outside of the track to race into turns one and two. Rabe charged in the lead down the back stretch but Kuhfuss pulled alongside Rabe as the two entered turn three. As Rabe and Kuhfuss raced out of turn four for the final leg to the checkered flag, Rabe had the slight advantage but Kuhfuss was undeterred. Rabe and Kuhfuss charged through the scoring line with literally only an inch separating a win and second place. In a split scoring decision with two scorers giving Kuhfuss the win and one placing Rabe in the lead, Kuhfuss took the checkered flag in his first A-Main win of the season. After the great racing battle, Rabe finished in second by an inch but was awarded the Apex Track Supply hard charger award after passing a remarkable 11 cars.

With only one yellow flag in lap two halting the racing action, last week’s A-Main winner Adam Krepline of Manitowoc charged through the field in the first three laps to pull into the lead in lap four. As Krepline charged out in front of the field, Mark Vranak of Sheboygan chased him down with Frank Paul of Kewaunee in third. Krepline continued his charge for the remaining laps to not only win back to back features but to earn the Apex Track Supply Hard Charger Award by passing the entire field to win his fourth Eastern 8 A-Main of the season. Vranak followed in second with Paul holding onto third.

In the Visiting Rascal Outlaws, point leader Jeff LeSage charged into the lead in lap three of the 15-lap A-Main with Keith Christophersen and Mark Findley chasing him down. Without a yellow flag to pull leader LeSage back into the field, Christophersen had his work laid out for him. At the checkered flag, Christophersen had made up most of the track between first and second places but LeSage charged through the flag to win the Rascal A-Main. Heat winner Christophersen followed in second with Jason Mahoney finishing third.
