Pete Ostrowski (#7) scored his second Winged Super Modified A-Main victory of the 2006 racing season at the Manitowoc County Expo.
Dan Dippel (#8) the current Limited Late Model point leader and defending champion racked up another feature win.
Jason Winkler (#88) won the Grand National Sportsman feature race two weeks ago and came back for another win this evening.
Brett Koehler (#65) topped the Eastern 8 main event this evening.
Greg Gierke (#27) was a new face in victory lane after topping the All-American Mighty 4 feature race.

A lap later, past track champion Pete Ostrowski of East Troy flew around the high side of the track to sweep past Swendrowski on the front stretch to take over third. Hansen and Hafemann threw their cars to the high side and the battle began. Coming out of turns three and four to complete lap seven, Ostrowski took the advantage and Hafemann ducked his car to the inside to save second but at the line Ostrowski took over the challenge position and set his sights on the lead. A lap later, Ostrowski threw his car to the inside of leader Hansen to charged side by side with Hansen down the front stretch. As Hansen and Ostrowski raced into turn one, Hansen still held onto the lead but Ostrowski pushed harder and took over control of the race coming out of turn two. Hafemann followed the battling Ostrowski and Hansen and maneuvered passed Hansen on the back stretch to take over second. Ostrowski and Hafemann readjusted their driving line and went back to the outside of the track to charge through the corners.

At the mid-point in the race, in lap 12, Chuck Tuschl of Reedsville charged after Hansen to challenge for third and last week’s feature winner Tim McMullen of Plymouth joined the top five. Two laps later, Tuschl retired to the pits with mechanical problems leaving McMullen and Swendrowski charging after Ostrowski, Hafemann and Hansen. At the line in lap 15, McMullen pulled alongside Hansen with only inches giving third place to McMullen. With his sights on the lead, McMullen broke free and charged up to Hafemann. Leader Ostrowski, Hafemann and McMullen skillfully weaved in and out of lapped traffic as the checkered flag came closer. Four laps from the end, McMullen threw his car to the inside groove and raced side by side with Hafemann to take over second place by inches at the line but four lapped cars were between his car and leader Ostrowski. McMullen charged forward but Ostrowski was hooked up and flew through the checkered flag to win his second A-Main of the season. Ostrowski’s win earned him a clean sweep by adding this win to his fast time and heat win. McMullen followed in second with heat winner Hafemann, Hansen and Swendrowski rounding out the top five.

Four different leaders charged through the Limited Late Model feature race with Dave Haag of Glenbeulah taking the first lead before the only yellow flag in lap one. Mark Dingel of Sheboygan took over the lead in lap two with another Sheboygan driver Dave Schaetzer pulling into second behind him and Plymouth’s Scott Haugstad in third. At the line in lap six, Haugstad charged forward passing Schaetzer to take over second and pulled side by side with leader Dingel at the start/finish line. Point leader Dan Dippel of Plymouth moved into third in the same lap. Haugstad charged side by side with Dingel through turns one and two making his move to take over control of the race on the backstretch. Dippel followed Haugstad passed Dingel to take over second intent on reeling in Haugstad. For laps, Haugstad flew around the Manitowoc track holding off the past track champion Dippel. Four laps from the checkered flag, Haugstad ducked his car to the inside groove but Dippel charged to the outside and pulled up next to Haugstad with only a couple inches separating first and second places. A lap later, Dippel secured the lead and set his sights on the win. As the white flag flew, Tim Thompson of Campbellsport charged passed Schaetzer to take over third behind Dippel and Haugstad. At the line, Dippel also clean sweeped by winning his fifth Limited Late Model A-Main of the season. Haugstad followed in second with Thompson, Dingel and Haag rounding out the top five.

Without any cautions to slow down the racing action, the Grand National A-Main competitors charged around the track tightly packed as Andy Fuhrmann of Brillion grabbed the early lead with heat winner Jason Winkler of New Holstein on his bumper. Bob Peter of Howards Grove and Jim Brooks of Fredonia moved into third and fourth charging after Fuhrmann and Winkler. Coming out of turns three and four, Winkler pulled along side Fuhrmann to take over the lead at the line in lap five as Brett Wenzel of Two Rivers passed Brooks to take over fourth. Winkler set a solid pace in the front of the 20-lap race as Fuhrmann and Peter chased him down. Fast qualifier Brian Gilles of Plymouth moved into the top five in lap nine and began his charge for the win. A lap later, Gilles threw his car to the outside of the track to pass Wenzel for fourth.

By lap twelve, leader Winkler, Fuhrmann, Peter and Gilles charged around the front of the pack together. Gilles moved into third a lap later after passing Peter at the line. Gilles set his sights on Fuhrmann and charged around the top of the track to catch the second place runner. As Gilles caught up to the bumper of Fuhrmann in lap seventeen, Gilles threw his car to the inside of the track and crossed the line side by side with Fuhrmann but Fuhrmann still held second and battled back.

A lap later, Gilles tried the high side of the track coming out of turn four but Fuhrmann still had the advantage. The next lap, at the white flag, Gilles flew through turns three and four at almost the outer most groove of the track and shot down the front stretch passing Fuhrmann for second with only one lap left in the race. Winkler held a solid lead and Gilles could not make up the ground. At the checkered flag, Winkler smoothly won his second A-Main of the season. Gilles followed in second with Fuhrmann, Peter and Wenzel rounded out the top five.

The All American Mighty 4 A-Main also ran green flag to checkered without interruption with Greg Gierke of Kiel taking the lead in the first lap and Amber Rabe of Plymouth on his bumper. Steven Brion of Sheboygan moved into third in the early laps until the fourth lap when Plymouth’s Jacob Meyer passed Brion high on the backstretch. As Rabe was trying to reel in leader Gierke, Meyer set his sights on Rabe. On the very lap rookie Meyer moved into third, point leader and four-time feature winner Tim Jorgenson of DePere pulled in behind him to charge toward the front. Four laps from the end, Gierke held off Rabe while Jorgenson threw his car to the outside groove to pull alongside Meyer on the front stretch. A lap later, Meyer and Jorgenson battled around the track and crossed the start/finish line with only inches separating third and fourth places. As the white flag flew, Jorgenson passed Meyer to take over third with only one lap to go. At the checkered flag, Gierke won his first A-Main of the season with Rabe, heat winner Jorgenson and Meyer rounding out the top four.

After not being able to finish last week’s feature, Bret Koehler of Two Rivers looked like a man on a mission as he grabbed the early lead in the Eastern 8 A-Main with Josh Schroeder of Manitowoc chasing him down. Three laps into the race, Adam Krepline also of Manitowoc raced the inside groove to catch up to Schroeder and pull side by side with Schroeder at the line. A lap later, Schroeder held onto second by inches as the battling duo were almost even at the line. The only yellow flag appeared in lap five and pulled leader Koehler back to the front of the pack. Schroeder and Krepline restarted directly behind leader Koehler. After the green flag flew, Krepline charged into second with Mike Kaufmann of Newton pulling side by side with Schroeder to challenge for third. Kaufmann secured third in lap six but Schroeder was not giving up so easily and charged back the next couple laps. With both Schroeder and Kaufmann racing the high line in lap nine, Schroeder readjusted and threw his car to the inside to pass Kaufmann a lap later to retake third place. A lap later, Koehler held a smooth and steady line in the lead with Krepline charging to catch him as Kaufmann charged passed Schroeder at the line to take back third. At the checkered flag, Koehler won his third feature of the season with heat winner Krepline following in second. Kaufmann, Schroeder and Paul Nelesen of Mishicot rounded out the top five.
