Manitowoc, WI.; June 3, 2006 - Only one yellow flag slowed the hard charging Winged Super Modifieds in the 30-lap A-Main as past track champion Paul Pokorski of West Bend flew into the top spot right after the yellow in lap two. Keith Anderson of Sheboygan and Chuck Tuschl of Reedsville raced side by side with only inches separating their cars at the line to battle for the challenge spot. Tuschl threw his car to the inside groove to pull into second the following lap. |

With Pokorski having charged out in front of the field with some distance between his car and the rest of the field, Tuschl had his work cut out for him. Tuschl readjusted and charged to the outside of the track to make up the track separating his car from the lead. Pokorski also chose the high groove but by lap ten, lapped cars forced Pokorski to weave from the inner groove back to the outside of the track to maneuver his way through the slower cars. A lap later, Tuschl was within striking distance of leader Pokorski but last years track champion Tim McMullen of Plymouth moved into third to pressure for the lead.
Pokorski wasted no time in passing more lapped cars back to cushion his lead. By lap 13, McMullen charged passed Tuschl to become the challenger to Pokorski. After racing a number of years together, both Pokorski and McMullen knew the others racing strategies. McMullen, as did Pokorski, skillfully weaved his way through the lapped traffic to pull in behind Pokorski in lap 22. But Pokorski was hooked up and charged passed another set of lapped traffic. Four laps later, McMullen was buried in lapped traffic with only six laps to go. At the checkered, Pokorski won his third Modified A-Main of the season. Heat winner McMullen followed in second with fast qualifier Pete Ostrowski of East Troy, Tuschl and Billy Hafemann of Waldo rounding out the top five. Again only one yellow flag kept the Limited Late Model A-Main running from flag to flag with past track champion Dan Dippel of Plymouth grabbing the lead by the second lap. Dave Haag also of Plymouth charged in behind him for the next five laps with heat winner Mark Dingel of Sheboygan racing side by side with him. Dingel made his move and took over second in lap seven. Dingel charged after Dippel but Dippel was flying out in front and the laps were counting down. At the checkered flag, Dippel third A-Main of the season. Dingel followed in second with Haag, Dave Schaetzer of Sheboygan and Scott Haugstad of Plymouth rounding out the top five. Elkhart Lake’s Brad Ruh charged into the early lead of the Grand National A-Main with Chilton’s Bernie Schommer on his bumper. As the top spots in this feature event remained tightly packed, Schommer charged after Ruh with Brian Goetsch of Sheboygan, Jason Winkler of New Holstein and Bob Cullen of Chilton racing three wide down the back stretch to battle for better positions. By lap five, Ruh had distanced his car slightly away from the battling group behind him. Schommer was focused on catching Ruh with Goetsch and Winkler charging side by side for control of third place. The next lap Winkler passed Goetsch and caught up to Schommer. Winkler threw his car to the inside with Schommer charging on the outer groove. A lap later, only inches separated the battling cars of Schommer and Winkler at the scoring line. As the two cars raced side by side, Winkler took over second the following lap to begin his challenge for the lead. At the half way point in the 20-lap race, Winkler continued to race the inside groove to catch up to leader Ruh. Even though the two cars raced down the back stretch side by side in lap 10, Ruh pulled ahead through turns three and four to hold onto the lead on the front stretch. Ruh threw his car to the outside of the track with Winkler also outside chasing him down. Five laps from the end in lap 15, Winkler caught up to Ruh and pulled outside his car to cross the line side by side with again only inches separating first and second places. A lap later, Winkler took over the lead on the high side of the track. Winkler only led two laps when a final yellow flag halted the racing action restarting the field for a three lap dash to the checkered. Winkler lined up in the front alone with Ruh and Schommer directly behind him and Cullen and Jeff Muehlbauer of Elkhart Lake in the next row. |

Two laps later, Freedom’s Phil Martzahl passed Skolaski to take over third and chase Schuette. Jeff Gierke of Kiel pulled in behind Martzahl in lap seven and passed him to take over third two laps later. As the laps clicked off, Jorgeson continued his solid lead and began lapping traffic as Gierke moved into second only two laps from the end. At the checkered flag, Jorgenson won his third A-Main of the season. Gierke followed in second with Martzahl, Schuette and Skolaski rounding out the top five. In the Eastern 8 A-Main, Mike Kaufmann of Newton grabbed the early lead with Josh Schroeder of Manitowoc on his bumper. Two laps were completed when multicar incidents brought out the yellow and red flags with Bob Voigt of Little Chute rolling his car in turn four. When the green flag flew again, Adam Krepline of Manitowoc took over control of the race with Schroeder again moving into second. A lap later, Jeff Sayler of Howards Grove passed Schroeder to take the challenge spot behind leader Krepline. Ryan Eickert of Brillion pulled up next to Schroeder to battle for third. With Krepline out in front of the field alone, Sayler charged after him with Eickert throwing his car to the outside after taking over third. At the halfway point in the race, Eickert could not get any higher on the track as he took over second and began reeling in leader Krepline. Matt McDonald of Sheboygan charged after Eickert to take over third in lap eight. Two laps later, Sayler refocused and took back third place. As the laps ran down, Krepline began lapping traffic to secure his first A-Main win at the checkered flag. Sayler followed in second with previous feature winner Eickert, Troy Bartel of Chilton and Schroeder rounding out the top five. Bethany Wyttenbach charged into the lead of the INEX Legend Car A-main in lap two with Brian Peterson of Mukwonago and Phil VanTatenhove battling behind her for second place. Two laps later, second place belonged to VanTatenhove with Eric Barth moving up to third to begin his battle for second. By lap seven, VanTatenhove and Barth were racing side by side down the front stretch to win the challenge spot. A lap later, Barth took the position by inches but one more lap switched the cars again. Lap nine scored VanTatenhove back in second but Barth did not give up and took over second in lap ten and began his charge at leader Wyttenbach. By lap 12, Barth caught up to the back of the leader and threw his car to the inside to challenge for control of the race. Wyttenbach chose the high side of the track with Barth on the inner groove. Barth passed Wyttenbach to take over the lead in lap fourteen. A lap later, Warren Ropp passed VanTatenhove to take over third and chase Barth and Wyttenbach. As the competitors charged around the Manitowoc track, Barth took the checkered flag to win the first Legend A-Main at EWSC. Wyttenbach followed in second with Ropp, Joe Johnson and VanTatenhove rounding out the top five.
